Rika has been busy preparing stock for the Discovery Bay Craft Market in May, and decided to pay a little more for a better stall. As we neared the date, the weather forecast got worse and worse. It looked like it might be a wash-out.
The stall fee is not refundable but the stall has an awning to protect against light rain. Of course, in heavy rain the market would have few customers, and it would be difficult to prevent the stock getting damaged. So we decided to stay at home if it was raining heavily.
I could hear it raining heavily overnight, so I was looking forward to sleeping-in. But by 8am the rain had stopped, so we proceeded to DB as planned, and set-up shop. The ground was wet and we had to empty a large puddle from in the awning.
Another thunderstorm warning was issued at 9:30am, but when the rain arrived it was light and intermittent. The drizzle continued on and off during the morning.
Despite the rain the crowd was similar to the previous market in March, and Rika's stall got a good amount of interest.
Rika's stall was in a good location in line-of-sight of one of the main entrances to the plaza and open on 2 sides with space for a table and clothes-racks.
I mainly helped by looking after Hannah. We found a spare table nearby and did some homework.
Then we took a bus up to DB North Plaza and let H run-around for a few hours at DiscoveryLand.
DiscoveryLand was busy and Hannah quickly found a Japanese girl of the same age to play with.
Then we went back to the stall to deliver Rika some water and let her take a break.
The rain continued to hold-off in the afternoon and business picked-up. Rika sold a six garments and also got an order for made-to measure.
She also sold a number of earrings and hair-ties, including several to this little girl who spent a long time carefully selecting her favorite pieces within her HKD 50 budget.
Total sales were HKD 4,500 from 26 items. HKD 3,600 from six garments and HKD 900 from small items. Costs HKD 1,500 for the stall and HKD 500 for taxis.
The market finished at 7pm. We celebrated by helping the german wine-merchants next door dispose of their surplus Riesling (which was still nicely chilled). And after packing-up we moved across the plaza to an outside table at Rika's favorite Italian restaurant. Rika was very satisfied with her days work.

Shortly after our mains arrived, the heavens finally opened. The awning above us was soaked through within minutes, and before we could complete our retreat inside, my pasta was half-full of water.
We were very fortunate it hadn't rained like that during the day.
