Chijimi Party

On Saturday night we has a Chijimi Party at our flat with the Mr and Mrs A. and Yu-chan

Hannah played with Yu-chan and we made Chijimi on the hot-plate.

Mrs A. cooked delicious Korean food for us.

Anxious Cat

When Minimi returned from hospital we did everything we could to reassure him that he was still Number One Top-Cat.   I deliberately avoided handling the kittens so that Minimi wouldn't smell the intruders on me.

Minimi seemed sad and anxious and mainly stayed in the bedroom.  We tried to follow the Vet's instructions but he wouldn't eat and vomited-up the anti-nausea pill we gave him.

He snuggled-up to me at night....

....and during the day.   He still wasn't eating by himself so we had to syringe-feed him with small amounts of wet-food, and the anti-biotic and de-wormer medicine.    We decided not to stress him further by trying to force him to take all the other medicines.

On Friday Rika allowed him into Hannah's room to visit the kittens in their cage.    Once he saw them he visibly relaxed and brightened up.   We think he had been imagined the intruders were scary three-foot-tall 'oni-nekos' (ogre-cats)

On Saturday we let the kittens come into the living-room with Minimi for the first time.

Minimi sat under Rika's chair and tried to ignore them.

But Jayden came-over politely to introduce himself.   He stood near Minimi and then let Minimi approach.

Formal cat introductions followed:   a Neko 'hana-chu' (cat 'air-kiss')....

... then bum-sniffs.

Minimi seemed to decide he could tolerate this kitten, as long as he behaves himself.

Kura was less successful.   He approached Minimi from behind and sniffed his tail...

... and Minimi decided to show him who is boss.

Video:   Minimi putting Kura in his place.

After all this stress Minimi retreated to his cat-bed for a bit of 'strange-single-behavior' (pretending to be a kitten suckling his mother).  And we put the kittens back in their room.

Minimi then demanded to visit Auntie's room to check if there was an 'oni-neko' hiding there.  And then he relaxed further and started eating the liquid part of his Mon-petite food.

Phew!   What a relief!

Kittens take over

While Minimi was in hospital, Kura and Jayden made themselves at home.

Hannah has done a good job of looking after them and giving them lots of love.

The kittens are actually rather smelly.  They make a very big small for such small cats - so its understandable if Minimi thought they were Oni-nekos.

After a week Hannah's room smells very strongly of litter-tray, even though we try to clean it up promptly.

The kittens are very lively and love to play.

Disco Bay 'working stay-cation'

On Saturday afternoon we went to Discovery Bay to stay the night at the Auberge Hotel.   We had a nice dinner at the turkish restaurant in the North Plaza.

St Marks Square, Venice, Discovery Bay North Plaza

Rika had to set-up her stall at the Discovery Bay Craft Market by 11am.

She'd booked the hotel nearby so we wouldn't have to get up at 6am on Sunday, and could instead enjoy a 'stay-cation' at Disco Bay.

Aubergine Hotel
Hannah liked our hotel room and the hotel pool, which was actually seemed a bit cold.   It is now autumn and the temperature is dropping rapidly.   After learning to tolerate the 30-33 degree summer heat, an autumnal 28 degrees seems a bit chilly!

After the excitement and running-around Hannah went to bed late.    I had an uneven nights sleep trying to share single-bed with Hannah (we'd balked at the HKD400 fee for an extra bed!)

But even after sleeping-in Sunday morning, we were able to arrive at the market at the South Plaza in plenty of time as planned.

Hannah helped Rika set-up her stall.

Once again Rika was selling a mix of her own-design clothes and accessories, plus some tenugui fabrics from Japan.

While I took Hannah back to the hotel to play at the pool and then at the 'Discoveryland' indoor playground.   (My suggestion of going hiking in the hills had been firmly rejected).

Hannah had a great time running around, and once-again was able to find some Japanese-speaking girls to play with.

Daddy retreated to the cafe with his new Kindle.

I checked-out of the hotel and we returned to the market at around 4pm.   Santo-sensei came over in the afternoon to keep Rika company.

The weather was perfect for a market - dry and not too hot.  The crowd was bigger than last time but Rika's sales were slightly down at about HKD 2,800.    This left a very small profit after the cost of the market stall and transport.    (The hotel was expensed to our holiday budget).

We enjoyed the stay-cation at the Aubergine hotel and hope to staycation there again.  But for market days, I think I prefer spending Saturday night at home so I can do my own thing.
