South Bay Birthday Party

On Sunday Hannah was invited to another birthday party - this time at South Bay Beach.  Sam had just turned 6 and his parents kindly invited his friends and all his classmates to a party at the beach.    It was a good chance for us to meet other parents again.

South Bay Beach is a small secluded beach south of Repulse Bay and apparently one of the nicest in Hong Kong with clean water and a nice atmosphere.  It was already very sunny and 31 degrees when we arrived at 10am.

The party deployed with military precision with a series of guided games like tug-of-war, a nice catered lunch and a cake.   The parents relaxed and chatted and watched their children play.  Then at 12:00 hours they all packed their gear and children into their SUVs and disappeared.  Party over as scheduled.

The party brought home to us how much younger Hannah is than many of her classmates.  She turned 5 in July but many of her classmates are turning 6 already.   And of course many of the class know each other from last year.   So she facing a few challenges to fit in.  Which made us grateful that this school has a culture of including everyone at events like this one.    So thank you Sam-mama and Sam-papa!

I had changed in anticipation of going swimming with Hannah.  But when the party finished it was 32 baking degrees out on the sand and Rika wanted to find some air-con.   So testing the water at South Bay beach was postponed for another day.
