Student Exhibition

On Friday morning Hannah's class hosted a student exhibition to show their work.

They did exercises like answering questions about their latest PYP unit in chinese, ("how many ties does the earth rotate in a day") and we saw a video of the class project.

Shatin - Snoopyland

After cycling we went to the Shatin mall for lunch and shopping.  Although Shatin is a Hong Kong new town, the mall is upmarket and very international with a branch of 'Santouka' ramen from Japan and many old favourites from the UK.

Hannah was able to do some shopping.  She seems to be having a growth spurt and needs new shoes.

Another of Shatin's attractions is 'Snoopyland',

This is a playground inspired by the creations of Charles M Schultz...

....and Brugel.

It was a good opportunity for Hannah to practice her 'chinese queing'.

In my day the Peanuts gang drank lemonade not champagne.  But I guess times have changed, especially in Asia.  Anyway it makes a good photo.

Hannah liked it so much she didn't want to leave.

Another video to play at her wedding...

Shatin Bicycle Path

On Sunday we went to Shatin to enjoy bicycling along the cycle-path by the river.

Shatin is in the New Territories on the north side of Lion Mountain from Kowloon on the way to Tai Po.  It took 60min and 3 different train lines to get there from Park-view.  Shatin was developed as 'new town'.  It is well designed with a busy shopping area above the transport interchange and a very nice park by the riverside.   It is also known for its 10,000 buddha monastery which we will visit another time.

The cycle-path runs along the river all the way to Tai Po, and also has a branch crossing the Shing Mun river and heading along the Ma On Shan warter-front promenade..  You can hire cycles at the park.  We got a small bicycle for Hannah.  But as a back-up plan in case she got tired, a bike with a baby seat for me,  and an 'family cycle' for Rika that could carry Hannah's bike if necessary.

It was quite a nice path although a bit smelly at times.  Hannah quickly got the hang of cycling along the path and negotiating the traffic.  She was soon leading the way.

while Rika followed in the 'support vehicle'.

We were able to stop for an ice cream halfway to the bridge.

Hannah and Rika stopping on the bridge.  Looking west towards Hong Kong University on the hills.  This is where the Japan Inconvenient School (JIS) has its campus.

We crossed the bridge and went another 300m along the Ma on Shan waterfront promenade until Rika called a halt at a playground.

View looking south from the bridge up the Shing Mun River back towards Shatin.  The cycle-path goes along the riverside on the right alongside the Shatin race-course.

We were expecting Hannah to get tired and to carry her bike back.  But it turned out that Hannah was just getting started.  She took off and rode all  the way back, almost without stopping.    Except to let us catch up.
