Villages
October first was a public holiday and to give Mum a break, Hannah and I went to explore the village next to our apartment block
Lok Lo Ha village from our flat in the morning sun.
Lok Lo Ha villiage is just 'uphill' from Royal Ascot. It would have originally have been on the shoreline. But then the estuary in front was reclaimed and a railway depo and racecourse built. Then in the 1980s Royal Ascot built on a huge concrete podium above the railway, and now towers above.
Royal Ascot from the village.
The village is served by a short stretch of road but from there access is by narrow footpaths. In the village proper the houses are a mix of standard 'village houses' packed close together. Further up the hill some have gardens. Everyone seems to have a dog.
Even further up the hill are what look like squatters dwellings, some of which seem abandoned. Im guessing some date to the 50s and 60s when there was great influx of refugees from the mainland.
Government signs warn of the dangers of landslides and note that some houses are zoned for removal.
