Taiwan

In May 14-17th we flew down to Taiwan to see my brother Matthew perform in a dance show. My parents had also flown up from New Zealand to see the show, and then come back with us to Japan.

Mt Fuji from the plane on the way out.

The show was called 'Apparition'. Its a interactive dance and media performance conceived and directed by the Austrian artist Klaus Obermaier, in collaboration with the Ars Electronica Futurelab. It featured 2 dancers - Desirée Kongerød and Matthew - and some very advanced computers and lighting technology.

This is the National Theatre in Taipei, where the show ran for 3 days.

Hanna was too young to see the show so we waited outside at this cafe. But Hannah enjoyed playing with the children of the cafe staff. We really enjoyed Taipei, partly because we found the Taiwanese very relaxed and friendly wherever we went.

Hannah took this photo of Rika outside the theatre on Sunday.

Sightseeing in Taipei. It was very hot and I was surprised how exhausted I became carry Hanna around.

On Saturday we went to the night market. This is Hannah making friends with the staff and their kids.

Akasugu May-Jun 2009

This pram photo was taken at a photoshoot early on a mild Saturday morning back in 7 Feb. Hanna really didn't want to sit in the pram and kept tring to wriggle out. So I started lifting Rika up off the ground, which made Hanna laugh and they got this photo.

At the same photoshoot I took this photo of Hanna which is one of my favourites. I think the photogropher knew when and where to get nice morning light.

Kawagoe

In the weekend of April 12 we went for a daytrip to Kawagoe. This town is famous for having a lot of Edo period buildings and also for a festival.

The festival is so famous that it has its own museum, where you can see the festival floats and performing arts.

The highlight for Hanna was finding a neighbourhood park with a swing.
